Cold Feet on canvas

I was approached a little while ago by a fellow looking to print up a larger scale version of my "Cold Feet" illustration as a gift to his girlfriend. I think it turned out very cute!

Flight 8

Flight: Volume 8 is available for pre-order on Amazon.com! I had a lot of fun on this volume working on a story written by Shaggy Shanahan. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a brilliant series and to have met so many amazing friends through it. This'll be the last volume in an 8 book run, Kazu Kibuishi's cover captures the mood beautifully.

#fanartfriday: Ranma 1/2

Female Ranma from Rumiko Takahashi’s martial-arts comedy “Ranma 1/2”. One of my favourite manga, this one’s chalk full of pure silly fun with great characters and super entertaining stories (and way too many conveniently placed water buckets).

My studio!

Finally got my studio space more or less organized after all the crazy busyness of work, Toronto Wizard World comic con, and a head cold that left me fairly out of sorts. My favourite part is the new white board which keeps all the clutter of note pads and stickynotes to a minimum. (I used to have to deal with a desk space that looked something like this):

DDOT for Show About Games Show

A little while ago I was approached to do some simple designs for my brother Shaggy and friend's Escapist Variety Show, "Show About Games Show!" These were for the in-game segment of a video game review for an fictional game titled "Drawing D*cks on Things."

You can check out the final (glorious) results on the Escapist website (if you're viewing this on my blog instead of a RSS reader and the video clip is getting cut off, watch it HERE INSTEAD!

Kt's Wizard World write up

So another con has come and gone, and I have to say despite suffering through the worst stages of a nasty cold-turned-laryngitis I had a very swell time! Seeing comic friends from near and far is always the greatest pleasure I get from conventions, and it was super awesome to make new acquaintances and meet a bunch of lovely, lovely readers and fans of my work. Thank you kindly to everyone who came by the table to chat, pick up prints, or even take a quick peek and shyly scamper away!

(Table buddy Adriana Blake, myself, and my brother Shaggy Shan being accosted by a member of Toronto's elite  501st Stormtrooper LegionClick to see a close up of my bro's hilarious face)

Tdot Comics, a new Toronto focused comic community, did a small write up as well (with a pic of our table). I was able to meet Tdot founder Alice Quinn very briefly, but I'm incredibly excited to see where Tdot is going and to be a part of a larger community of comic creators (and lovers) in the GTA!

My brother edited together this fun, short video taken at the con (which includes the results to a small contest I threw on twitter to win a commission) and some over-the-shoulder step-by-step process of me drawing and inking another commission... with frog voice!

As I mentioned last post, 100% of all purchases of my fanart prints will go directly to benefit relief efforts in Japan, and I was able to raise a grand total of $82! I'd mentioned on twitter that my donation would go to "Doctors without Borders" but was also informed that "Red Cross" donations had a more direct impact on Japan specifically. With all the amazing work Doctors without Borders do I didn't want to just suddenly leave them out so I decided to split the proceeds 50/50 between both organizations.

Proof of receipts (with my personal info blacked out for security reasons):

And that's about it for now, happy Spring Equinox to you all! There's a change in the air and I'm making changes in my life that excite, invigorate, and kind of scare me a little bit, but as long as I'm having fun I know I'm doing something right. As they say in "Meet the Robinsons", Keep moving forward!

Wizard World is come upon us!

Hey guys! Just a quick reminder that I'll be at table 1015 in the Artist Alley for Wizard World this Saturday and Sunday. I most likely won't be coming today (friday) as I'm finishing up a work deadline and battling the tail end of a nasty cold. But I'll see you guys Sat/Sun!

Thing's I'll have on the table:

- 4x6 art prints. NOTE! 100% of every purchase towards a fanart print (all the one's pictured above) will be donated to the relief effort to help out with the crisis in Japan. I mentioned donating to 'Doctors without Borders' on twitter, but heard 'Red Cross' has a more direct route to Japan, I'm still doing research to find which is the best place to donate to and will post a screen cap with proof of donation after the convention.

-8.5x11 art prints
- a portfolio showcasing comic pages from my (and my bro's) latest "Flight 8" story, "The Anthology Project: volume 2" (they will have a table at WW also so be sure to get a look at that beautiful book!) and some Shrub Monkeys pages. As well as various pinups and illustrations.
-I'll also be available for black and white inked commissions.

I think that covers everything, so come on by and let the nerd-times ROLL!!!

Thursday night life drawing

Wow, it shows how busy I've been with work that my last drawing-post before this one was LAST WEEK's life drawing session. This model had some really great energy with his shorter gestures, but I was so rusty with warm up I've only got ONE gesture I'm more or less okay with:

Going to Wizard World Toronto this weekend?

I'll be at table 1015 with my lady friend Adriana Blake (creator of the super adorable married-life webcomic "Fall on Me"). I'll post more details about what I'll have at the table very soon (I'm in the process of printing stuff, SO last minute!) But what I'm planning to have available are:

-4x6 mini colour prints
-8.5x11 colour prints
- Original bristol board illustrations and pages from my comics (Shrub Monkeys, Flight 8 and The Anthology Project). ** For portfolio viewing purposes not for sale**
-and lastly... COMMISSIONS! I'm not sure how many I'll be able to take on, I may cap it at 10-15 slots a day, so come by quickly if you're interested. More details to come on that throughout the week as well. :)

Tank Girl!

A Tank Girl drawing for last friday's #fanartfriday tumblr post. Done with brush and ink. I have a confession to make, I actually haven't (gulp) read Tank Girl yet? (NERD FAIL) But there are a bunch of copies at the Toronto reference library that I'll give a read when I get some free time.

Fancy a balloon?

The Anthology Project: Volume 2 is almost here!

I'm very excited to announce that The Anthology Project: Volume 2, a beautiful comic collection I am absolutely honored to be a part of, will be available for pre-order off the AP website as of March 14th, 2011. I was able to get my hands on an advance copy (but only for a couple minutes before it was rescued) and let me tell you, this book packs some serious punch in an insanely pretty package.

Joy Ang (one of the creators of The Anthology Project) has posted some sneak peeks at this lovely and hefty volume on her flickr, so be sure to check that out! (The photos do the book more justice than my rambling ballyhoo ever could)

For more in depth previews of each story, take a look here!

So excited!
