Flight 8 in print!

My buddy the awesome comic artist Jason Caffoe posted a few pictures of the hot-off-the-press printed volume of “Flight 8”! You can see a sample spread from my brother Shaggy’s and my comic “Buttons and Jim.”
This book is going to be absolutely stunning, I’ve gotten a sneak peek at every story going in there and they are all beautifully crafted. I cannot wait to get my hands on this! It’s already available for pre-sales on amazon.com but if you happen to be going to San Diego Comic Con this year there’ll be a big ol’ table I’m hoping to hang around behind and can do some signings and doodles for you! <3

More pics here!

Oh my. My "Cold Feet" piece certainly has been making it's little way around the internet. Here's something a couple folks on deviantart brought to my attention:

Twitter commission contest winners!

Every couple months I've started to host a twitter commission contest draw as a thank-you to the awesome folk who take an interest in my 140 character ramblings. My last two winners randomly happened to be right on the verge of graduating college/university (an exciting and optimistic time I remember well)! Best of luck to both ladies :)

Some new shop items!

I've added two new inked originals to my shop, "Letters" and the "Princess Knight" I drew for last week's fanartfriday. Either one of these lovely ladies can be yours for $65.00 Canadian plus shipping.

Quite a few people have been asking to get my "Cold Feet" print as an 8.5x11 instead of a postcard so I've made it available! Because the image was made smaller (10x7.5 in.) there is a one inch white trim around the piece.

Thanks for looking, gang!

As Nature Made Her

My near final piece for the upcoming "Girls Drawing Girls" pinup book "As nature made her". Below is the rough version for comparison:

Life drawing model studies: Maria

(10 min ^ and 15 min^)

(15 min ^) I left her face to last with this one (lost sight of time) and ended up just winging it. She came across looking a bit alien or like a black-eyed faerie (but that's kind of what I like about it).

Originals for Sale!

Hey gang,

I'm making space in my studio and selling off some original inked drawings in my online store. Each original drawing comes with a print of the final digitally coloured illustration I made from it. It's like getting a convention sketch from me but without the travel costs and entrance fees! If you're interested in a piece please send me an email about it and we can continue on from there. First come first serve!

Tttm 025: Indie Con

A new episode of my bro Shaggy's podcast "Talking to the Micromaphone" is live and stars the two of us gabbing about making comics, exhibiting at indie comic conventions, Portlandia travel tips and a hilarious and bizarre TCAF story featuring my buddy Harris Wolf.

(run time 50 minutes!)

One goof-up in the podcast: When I say FanExpo is our "super tiny comic con" I meant a smaller version of San Diego Comic Con (which is ridiculously humongous) not that FanExpo is a small convention. FanExpo is quite awesome!

BONUS: If you want to make a drinking game out of this podcast take a shot every time I say "basically" or "awesome."

A sneak peek at the next comic project coming from the siblings Shanahan (me and my bro Shaggy).

Store updated!

Hey gang!

I've updated my store with a collection of prints and mini prints left over from my comic convention tour that are now available for purchase online. Send me an email if anything tickles your fancy! I'll update with new works (including original b&w inked illustrations on bristol) as they become available.

Cheers!

i wuv you cat wackham!

A “Cat Rackham” drawing for creator Steve Wolfhard! One of my favourite gems from TCAF last weekend.

Classic Adam West campiness for the #fanartfriday tumblr. Batman’s always been my favourite superhero since childhood, and I think what I enjoy best about him is that there are so many different incarnations and interpretations of the character from super cool, to super dark and gritty, to just plain silly.

An alternative version for this week’s #FAF (that I scrapped in favor of Mr. Batusi here) was the Christian Bale Batman and his super squishy face:

TCAF Aftermath

Ah oui, TCAF...

As I sit with a steaming mug of neo-citron and a head brimming with inspiration and post-comic-con-plague infused delirium, it seemed to me a good time to put together a mini report on the joys and wonders that were a part of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF to its friends, thank you very much!)

TCAF, once a biannual show, is now held every year at the Toronto Reference Library, and it is free and open to everyone! The floors were jam packed with crowds of curious onlookers and it was the first time I've ever experienced a line up of awesome people wanting to come talk to me and check out my goodies (TABLE goodies, thank you very much!) The fine folks running TCAF love comics and the comic community so much that they want to make it accessible to absolutely everyone, and I think this is a big part of what makes this particular festival so special. That and the fact that EVERYONE (almost everyone) EVERYONE comes to TCAF. Just take a look at the crazy packed guest and exhibitor list from this year. I even got to meet Adventure Time creator Pen Ward briefly at an after party and watched gleefully as he honed in on my friend Harry, shook his hand for a solid three minutes and made non-stop beat boxing sounds, it was pure awkward delight!

(C'est moi and my booth buddy Adriana Blake grinning up a storm at table #123 )

So many comic friends from all over the world came to visit, many I've known for years either in person or through the interwebs, and it was FAN-doodley-TASTIC to hang out and catch up with so many of them. Even so, a weekend is barely enough time for meet ups, multiple breakfasts, and party crashing... Which is why I'm hoping some day TCAF will become an insane week-long-festival of geeky debauchery... or hell, why not make it all year round!

I also played hostess to a couple American friends who hadn't been to Canada before which not only gave me the opportunity to act as pompous tour-guide/ambassador/Queen of Hog Town, but ALSO introduced me to some new delicious places in the city I hadn't been to before.

(Artful montage of photos... don't you just want to hang it on your living room wall? DON'T YOU!?)

And so (don't worry I'm wrapping up here) to conclude, TCAF was a big success. I'd visited before but this was my first time exhibiting and I can't wait to do it again. TCAF also wraps up my indie-comic tour which was mostly an experiment to see what these conventions were all about (as I barely had anything to exhibit) and I have to say...Mocca, Stumptown and TCAF, I had an absolute blast. I love going to these things, and it's something I definitely want to keep doing. Now I just have to make NEW STUFF to actually exhibit...
(My modest but much loved TCAF haul... which includes gift arts from amazing artist friends Stephanie Ramirez, Brianne Drouhard and Kali Fontecchio)

And a close up of an adorable drawing gifted to me by Jamie Campbell
(based on a tweet I made on my iphone that went horribly wrong due to auto-correct)

So it's back to my studio loft to hunch over the drawing desk/computer as a wiser more inspired Kt, and get cracking on a few of those projects I've left simmering too long on the ol' backburners. Thank you to everyone who came by my table to say hello at each indie con! Thank you to the people who make these conventions run smooth and fabulous every year! Thank you to my friends and fellow artists for continuing to inspire me and make me feel horrifically inept at drawing which only makes me have to work harder. I love you all! Cheers!

(Farewell TCAF, until we meet again and fall in love once more next spring!)

Tabling at TCAF!

Hey folks! Here’s the floor map for TCAF (the Toronto Comic Artis Festival) happening this weekend at the Toronto Reference library- an absolutely amazing (and free) event! If you happen to be in the area swing by and say “HEYA!” to myself and my booth buddy Adriana Blake at table 123.  I’ll have colour mini prints, 8.5x11 prints and FREE Shrub Monkeys mini-comic samplers available. Space is tight (we’re sharing a 3 foot table) so I may not be able to display my original art portfolio like I did at Wizard World and Stumptown, BUT I’ll have it on me so if you ask I’d be happy to share :)
I’ll also be available for $20 black and white 9x12 inked commissions so be sure to hit me up early if you think that’s something you might be interested in.

EDIT!!! Holy shmolly, I totally forgot to mention! If you're interested in picking up a copy of the gorgeous Anthology Project volume 2 (vol. 1 was just nominated for an Eisner, WOO!) swing by table 213 on the top floor!

Cheers gang! Looking forward to seeing you there :)
